Checking the proper functioning, removing and installing the reverse light switch sensor (Opel Astra G)

Examination



Power is supplied to the reverse light bulbs via a plunger-type switch sensor screwed into the top of the manual transmission housing.

1. If the lights fail to operate, first check the integrity of the corresponding fuse.

2. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensor switch. Using an ohmmeter or test lamp, make sure that the sensor switch switches to the closed state when selecting reverse gear. If necessary, replace the sensor switch - first check the corresponding electrical wiring for signs of a break or short circuit.

Removal



Models F13, F17 and F18



1. To ensure adequate access, remove the battery with the mounting tray (see Chapter Engine electrical equipment).

2. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensor switch, unscrew it from the manual transmission housing and remove it together with the sealing washer.

Model F23



1. Set the parking brake, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on supports; if equipped, remove the crankcase guard.

Installation



Models F17 and F18



1. After replacing the sealing washer, screw the sensor-switch into the manual transmission housing and tighten it with the required force. Connect the electrical wiring and, if removed, install the battery in place. Check the proper functioning of the sensor-switch.

Model F23



1. After replacing the sealing washer, screw the sensor switch into the manual transmission housing and tighten it to the required torque. Connect the electrical wiring, if equipped, install the housing protection, then lower the car to the ground.
