Examination
Power to the reversing lights is supplied through a plunger-type sensor-switch screwed into the upper part of the gearbox housing.
1. If the lights fail to work, first of all check the integrity of the corresponding fuse.
2. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensor-switch. Using an ohmmeter or a probe lamp, make sure that the sensor-switch switches to the closed state when reverse gear is selected. If necessary, replace the sensor-switch - first check for signs of an open or short circuit in the corresponding electrical wiring.
Removing
Models F13, F17 and F18
1. To ensure adequate access, remove the battery from the installation tray (see chapter Engine electrical equipment).
2. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the sensor-switch, unscrew it from the gearbox housing and remove it complete with a sealing washer.
Model F23
1. Set the parking brake, jack up the front of the car and place it on supports, if equipped, remove the crankcase protection.
2. Disconnect from the sensor-switch (2) wiring (1), unscrew it from the gearbox housing and remove it complete with the sealing washer.
Installation
Models F17 and F18
1. After replacing the sealing washer, screw the sensor-switch into the gearbox housing and tighten with the required force. Connect the wiring and - if removed - reinstall the battery. Check the function of the sensor-switch.
Model F23
1. After replacing the sealing washer, screw the sensor-switch into the gearbox housing and tighten with the required force. Connect the electrical wiring, install the crankcase if equipped, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
