Health check
1. The reversing light circuit is closed by a plunger-type switch that is screwed into the rear of the transmission, above and to the left of the driveshaft. If the circuit is faulty, first check for a blown fuse.
2. To test the switch, disconnect the electrical wiring connector. Using a multimeter in resistance measurement mode or a diagnostic circuit (consists of a lamp and a battery connected by wires), make sure that current flows between the switch terminals only when reverse is selected. If this is not the case and there is no open or other damage in the circuit, the switch is defective and must be replaced.
Removing
3. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
4. Disconnect the electrical wiring connector, then unscrew the switch and remove it from the transmission case along with the sealing washer.
Installation
5. Install a new sealing washer on the circuit breaker, then screw it into position and tighten it with a tightening torque specified specifications. Connect the harness connector and test the circuit, then lower the vehicle to the ground.
