Removing
Gear lever
1. Apply the handbrake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on axle stands.
2. Remove the brackets securing the protective cover to the underside of the vehicle, then slide the cover forward to access the shift lever base (see illustrations 3.3 and 3.3a).
3. Pull out the mounting bracket and remove the hinge pin from the end of the gearshift rod facing the lever (see illustration). Separate the stem from the base of the lever, being careful not to lose the pivot bushings.
4. Loosen and remove the four bolts securing the arm assembly to the floor.
5. Working in the cabin, unfasten the protective cover of the lever from the center console and bend it over the lever.
6. Remove the rubber boot from the mounting plate and remove the lever assembly from the vehicle. Do not lose mounting plates. Remove the sealing washer that is installed between the arm mount and the floor.
7. Check the lever assembly for damage and signs of wear and replace damaged components as needed.
Shift rod
8. Follow the steps described in points 1 - 3.
9. Loosen and remove the nut and bolt securing the front end of the shift rod to the transmission leash pin connector and remove the shift rod from under the vehicle (see illustration). Remove the spacer from the connector and inspect the pivot bushings for signs of wear.
Installation
Gear lever
10. Lubricate the ball joint and bushings of the gear lever, as well as the mounting plates with multipurpose grease (Opel recommends compound 19 48 606 or 19 48 608) and install the sealing washer on the mounting base.
11. Install the mounting plates each in its original place, then install the lever assembly. Make sure the lever mounting tabs are correctly positioned (the larger protrusion should be at the back), then install the fastening bolts and tighten them with the tightening force regulated by the Specifications.
12. Align the shift rod with the lever, then insert the pivot pin and attach it with the bracket. Make sure the protective cover is properly placed on the base of the lever and attach it with the brackets.
13. Place the lever rubber boot onto the mount and staple the boot to the center console.
Shift rod
14. Install in reverse order, lubricating the pivot bolts with multipurpose grease.
