2. Carefully punch or drill a couple of small holes in the hard end face of the stuffing box into which two self-tapping screws are to be screwed. Grasping the heads of the self-tapping screws with pliers, remove the oil seal from its seat.
3. Clean the walls of the gland seat, removing small notches and roughness from them that can lead to the failure of a new gland.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and, using a cylindrical mandrel, press and press the oil seal into the seat flush with the surface of the head (sponges inside), - rest the mandrel against the hard outer edge of the end surface of the stuffing box, try not to damage the working edges.
As a mandrel, you can use an interchangeable end head of a suitable size, or a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter.
5. Install the camshaft gear (see Removal and installation of the timing belt tensioner and timing gears).
