On models equipped with A/C, it is necessary to first discharge the air conditioning system in a specialized auto repair shop.
Control cables connected to the heater body (version A)
1. Mixing damper cable lock.
2. Distribution damper cable retainer (air supply to the lower level).
3. Distribution damper cable retainer (air supply to the upper level).
Control cables connected to the heater body (version B)
1. Distribution damper cable retainer (air supply to the upper level).
2. Mixing damper cable lock.
Removing
1. Remove the center console and instrument panel (see chapter Body).
2. Disconnect the air supply hose to the rear foot wells from the main body of the heater, - prepare a rag to collect the coolant flowing from the heater heat exchanger.
3. Remove the passenger airbag (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
4. Open both front doors, remove the TORX head bolts and remove the steering cross member from the bulkhead of the engine compartment.
5. On equipped with A/C models cock the parking brake, jack up the front of the car and place it on supports, if equipped, remove the crankcase protection. Remove rear engine mount (see chapter Engine).
6. Turn out two fixing bolts and remove from the floor panel the drainage knot intended for removal of condensate.
Dismantling the drainage unit is possible without first removing the support, however, the work is much more complicated.
7. Empty the cooling system (see chapter Current service).
8. Remove a plastic insert from a windscreen, turn out fixing bolts and remove the bottom covering panel.
9. In the engine compartment, disconnect the heater hoses from the heat exchanger nozzles - pre-mark the hoses in order to ensure their correct connection during assembly.
Branded hoses are equipped with quick-connect connectors.
10. On equipped with A/C models unscrew the nipple bolt of the refrigerant tube connector on the expansion valve.
11. Move the air distributor housings away from the upper part of the bulkhead of the engine compartment.
12. On equipped with A/C models Disconnect the electrical wiring from the coolant shut-off valve.
13. In the passenger compartment, disconnect the electrical wiring from the circulation damper servomotor and from the heater fan electric motor. Disconnect the control cables from the heater housing (camshaft cable retainer shown (air supply to the upper level), version B) (see also illustrations Control cables connected to the heater body (version A) and Control cables connected to the heater body (version B)).
14. Together with an assistant, release the main body of the heater from the bulkhead of the engine compartment and remove it from the passenger compartment.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
Finally, recharge the cooling system (see chapter Current service). If equipped, drive the vehicle to a specialist workshop to recharge the air conditioning system. When installing the steering crossbar, make sure that the top rails are in place before tightening the bolts.
