The air conditioning system is constantly under high pressure. Never disconnect refrigeration lines or remove any system components without first discharging the system. The discharge of the air conditioning system must be carried out by an experienced specialist in a car service workshop. Always wear safety goggles when disconnecting refrigerant lines!
When replacing air conditioning system components, a certain amount of replacement refrigerant oil will be required to fill the volume of the new assembly. Use only oil suitable for use in R-134a systems (read the label on the container carefully).
The A/C compressor is not among the components subject to refurbishment and, in case of failure, must be replaced in tandem with the receiver-drier.
Removing
1. Discharge the air conditioning system in a specialized workshop.
2. Set the parking brake, jack up the front of the car and place it on supports, if equipped, remove the crankcase protection.
3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt (see chapter Current service).
5. Turn out a fixing bolt and separate the combined adapter nozzle from the compressor, remove a sealing element. In order to prevent dirt from entering the system, seal the holes in the compressor and nozzle with tape.
6. Disconnect electrical wiring.
7. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the compressor, having lowered it down and having released from a basic arm. Remove the compressor from the engine compartment.
Installation
1. Installation is in the reverse order to the removal of the components. Make sure all fasteners are tightened to the correct torque. Adjust the tension force of the accessory drive belt (see chapter Current service).
2. Finally, have the system charged and checked for leaks in a specialized workshop.
3. When installing a new compressor, check the oil level and correct if necessary. The calculation of the amount of refrigerant required to fill the volume of a new compressor is as follows:
- Drain the refrigerant oil from the compressor removed from the vehicle into a measuring container through the suction fitting.
- Subtract the measurement result from the value of 160 ml.
- The amount of refrigerant obtained as a result of subtraction should be poured into a new compressor.
4. Starting a new compressor is as follows:
- Open all air vents on the instrument panel and let the engine idle for five seconds.
- Turn on the heater fan at maximum speed.
- Activate the air conditioning system for at least 2 minutes at engine speeds below 1500 rpm.
