Check the oil pressure in the system and compare with the required value. If it is extremely low, the main and connecting rod bearings may be worn and/or there may be a defect in the oil pump.
Loss of power, misfiring, engine knocking, loud valve train noise, or excessive fuel consumption indicate a need for repair.
Repair involves the restoration of all engine characteristics. Many parts are replaced, cylinder diameters are adjusted, new main bearings and large connecting rod bearings are installed. In addition, it is necessary to check the condition of the oil pump, valves, wear of the crankshaft journals.
Cooling system components such as hoses, thermostat, water pump should be carefully inspected and, if necessary, replaced. Carefully inspect the radiator for leaks or contamination.
Repair will require: at least two weeks, the appropriate tool, new parts. Most repairs can be done with standard plumbing tools, although precision gauges may be required.
Removing the engine
Work begins with cleaning the engine compartment and the engine before removing it. You will need a lifting device with a margin for the total weight of the engine with the transmission. Be careful when lifting the engine outside the vehicle.
