Maintenance work
For vehicles with a variable catalytic converter, an exhaust test is required for the first time three years after the first approval date and then every two years, while also checking the ignition system and the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Sequence: exhaust gas check first, then «main car check». During the test, the car is connected to an expensive tester in the workshop, the printer of which summarizes the obtained measurement values in the form of a test confirmation. If individual results do not correspond to the norm, then there will be no positive conclusion about the test.
This test is carried out by branded and independent workshops, petrol stations, DEKRA and TUV. In our experience, the fastest way to do this is in a branded auto repair shop. To save time, it should also be added that the Opel workshop always has the latest installation data available.
When checking the exhaust gases, the exhaust system must be in working order and the intake manifold must be free of stray air. Also, make sure the air filter in your car is clean and the spark plug electrode spacing is correct. In addition, for the measurement, you must arrive in a car with a warm engine and, if necessary, change the engine oil if the car has been driven for a long time in winter for short distances. Condensed fuel entering the engine oil worsens the performance of exhaust gases.
Tip: If you always have your Vectra serviced in a workshop, an exhaust gas check is in principle part of the scope of the service offered. If someone maintains the car himself, then he should think about it himself - that's why this service point is mentioned here.
