Oil specifications
The outdated quality designation "HD-CI", which still crops up in isolated cases, was replaced many years ago by more detailed oil specifications, which are developed by various institutions based on different, but ultimately similar, test conditions. Oils that have successfully passed the tests may have information on the assigned specification on the packaging as proof of quality.
Quality testing is carried out, for example, by: the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACM).
It doesn't matter whether you buy motor oil at a petrol station or a supermarket, the packaging should have at least one of the required oil specifications printed on it.
Oil of the required specification
For its petrol engines, Opel strongly recommends only oils of the following specifications:
If the oil has one of these specifications, then you can safely buy it - even if it is significantly cheaper than the same well-known branded oil.
Tip: Oils with the designations API CD or API CC are pure diesel oils and therefore should not be used in a petrol engine. Exception: oil with a dual designation, such as API SG/CD or API SH/CD. In these cases, only the petrol engine specification SG or SH is suitable for us in the dual designation.
