Oil consumption (Opel Vectra B)

Part of the engine oil burns, performing lubricating functions. That is, oil consumption is a completely natural phenomenon. Well-run-in engines get by with a consumption of 0.2 liters of oil per 1000 kilometers, for Opel cars the maximum permissible oil consumption is 1.0 liter per 1000 km.

Measuring oil consumption

If you want to measure oil consumption with an accuracy of up to a hundredth of a liter, the car should also be on a completely horizontal surface, and the engine should remain off for at least five minutes. The easiest way to do this is before the first start. Then the oil level indicator is absolutely accurate, and you do not need to wipe the dipstick to measure it, because overnight all the oil has flowed into the oil pan.
