Checking your brake lights is not a problem, and for your own safety you should do it daily. Although the control system also checks your brake lights, it does not hurt to double check your brake lights.

If you press the brake pedal, the garage wall should be brightly illuminated with red light on the right and left.

Or, when driving in a column, check in the rearview mirror: are both brake lights reflected in the headlight reflectors or in the paintwork of the car behind you?.
