The brake light switch (3) is located in the bracket (2) above the brake pedal (1). When replacing, disconnect the wire connector and remove the switch by turning it to the left half a turn.
Removal the brake light switch
Remove the trim under the dashboard at the driver's feet.
Unscrew and remove the heating/ventilation duct located underneath.
Unlock the wire connector and remove it from the brake light switch.
Turn the brake light switch half a turn to the left and unscrew it from the pedal bearing bracket.
When installing, screw the brake light switch into the pedal bearing bracket so that the switch pin is pressed against the brake pedal.
Reinsert the wire connector.
Checking the brake light switch
If both brake lights are out of order, check to see if the switch is the source of the problem.
Unlock and disconnect the wire connector.
Short the wire contacts in the connector with a paper clip or a piece of wire.
If the brake lights are now on, then their switch is faulty.
Replace the switch.
