Checking the band brake (Opel Kadett E)

Remove the oil pan.

Remove the oil filter and sealing ring.

Remove the band brake servo cover together with the gasket.

Remove the band brake servo cover together with the gasket.


Remove and disassemble the band brake servo.

Remove the pressure accumulator valve and spring.

Install the KM J 28535 tool onto the brake actuator rod without the piston and secure it with two bolts.

Install a torque wrench on the device and turn the wrench downwards to create a torque of 1.1 kgf·m.

Adjust the brake by replacing the rod. The spare parts include rods of three different lengths with corresponding markings.



Band brake servo rod markings:
  • without groove: long stem;
  • single Groove: Medium Length Rod;
  • with two grooves: short stem.

Remove the fixture and install the brake servo in the reverse order of removal.
