With a smooth and even pressure on the gas pedal, an early shift to gears with economical fuel consumption occurs. Mechanical switching Only necessary in exceptional cases. Choose "3", "2" And "1" gears - only if you want to avoid upshifting or under engine braking.
As soon as the traffic situation permits, switch to "D".
Electronic travel control in position "D"
- Sport program, higher engine speeds: Press the key "S" (symbol is on)
- Economy program press the key again "S"
Mechanical switching is possible:
- 1 = 1st gear
- 2 = 3rd gear
- 3 = 3rd gear
- D = 4th gear
Shift lever positions P, R and N
- P = parking position. The front wheels are blocked. Only when the vehicle is at a complete stop and the parking brake is applied.
- R = reverse. Switch on only when the vehicle is completely stopped.
- N = neutral position and, accordingly, the idle position.
Engine starts in position "R" or "N". When shifting gears, do not press the accelerator pedal.
Position "D"
D = long position for normal driving in 1st to 4th gears.
4th gear is the highest gear. When driving in this gear, the engine speed, fuel consumption, and noise are reduced.
After starting the engine and shifting to the position "D", the automatic transmission is set to the economy driving program.
Step 3
3 = driving position in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. Even when driving at high speeds, the gear lever remains in position 3. However, do not exceed the maximum permissible speed in 3rd gear.
Stage 2
2 = driving position in 1st and 2nd gear, e.g. when driving in mountains; while the box does not switch to 3rd and 4th gears.
Stage 1
1 = position for maximum braking force, e.g. on steep descents, the gearbox does not shift into gears higher than 1.
Assistance when pulling away
In case of difficulty driving on a slippery road surface, to start off, press the key (only switches in position "D" - enable control ). The car will move in 3rd gear.
Start assist is deactivated automatically at speeds over 80 km/h.
In addition, shutdown is possible when:
- pressing the key
- manual activation "R", "3", "2" or "1"
- strong gas for more than 2 sec. or turn off the ignition
Forced reverse gear shift (Kickdown)
Depressing the accelerator pedal over a point of resistance: when the speed drops below a certain value, the gearbox shifts to a lower gear to make the most of the engine power.
Important note: If the vehicle does not accelerate normally or if the accelerator pedal cannot be fully depressed, damage has occurred. The symbol flashes. Immediately contact the service station.
Additional engine braking
To use the braking functions of the engine when descending, turn on the "3", "2" transmission or, if the situation so requires, "1".
Particularly effective braking effect on "1" transmission. If "1" gear is engaged at a very high speed, the transmission will continue to operate in 2nd gear until, for example, by braking, the transition point to 1st gear is reached.
Stop
The engaged gear at a stop with the engine running can be stored.
When stopping on slopes, be sure to apply the parking or service brake - do not try to hold the vehicle by increasing the number of revolutions in the engaged gear.
For long stops, such as in traffic jams or at a crossing, turn off the engine.
Before exiting the vehicle, first apply the parking brake, then shift to the "R" and remove the key from the ignition.
"Pulling"
To pull out a car stuck in sand, mud, snow, lightly press the gas pedal and constantly shift the gear lever between positions "D" And "R". Keep the engine speed as low as possible, avoid a sharp increase in gas. The method described above is used only in rare cases.
Precise maneuvering
For precise maneuvering, such as when parking, driving into a garage, etc., you can use the slide on slopes. Adjust the speed by slightly releasing the brake pedal.
Never press the gas and brake pedals at the same time.
