Windscreen wiper motor — check (Opel Omega B2)

Contents: Terminal designations: ⬇ Checking the windshield wiper motor ⬇

Terminal designations:

  • Terminal 31 is the "ground" (-) and provides connection to the body (as with other parts of the car's electrical equipment).
  • Terminal 53 supplies voltage for the first windshield wiper speed.
  • Terminal 53a is supplied with positive potential (+) to set the windscreen wiper to its initial (end) position. Voltage is supplied to the sliding contact of the motor until it stops after the driver gives the appropriate "command".
  • Terminal 53b supplies voltage for the second speed of the windshield wiper (shunt winding).
  • Terminal 53e brakes the electric motor after the windscreen wiper is switched off to prevent the windscreen wiper from overshooting the parking position.

Checking the windshield wiper motor

First, find out what is wrong: the motor or no voltage. To do this, proceed as follows:

1. Disconnect the multi-pin plug from the electric motor.

2. Power the electric motor by running 2 auxiliary wires from the battery.

Run one wire from the positive battery terminal to terminal 53 or 53b, and the second wire from the negative battery terminal to terminal 31 of the windshield wiper motor.

The wiper motor should now operate at speed I or II, depending on which terminal is supplied with power. If this is not the case, the motor or one of the motor rotation stages is faulty. Remove the motor.
