Tug launch
- only for manual transmission,
- on an automatic transmission, starting from a tow is not possible,
- on vehicles with a catalyst, it is better not to start the engine from a tug (catalytic converter can be damaged),
- on diesel models only in warm weather or with a warm engine.
It is best to use a rigid hitch to avoid vehicle collision during tow launching (catalog no. 17 90...).
When launching from a tow, care must be taken and the following procedure must be followed:
- turn off all unnecessary consumers of electricity,
- turn on the ignition,
- depress the clutch pedal
- shift into second or third gear,
- start moving and starting with a tug, as soon as the engine starts - shift the gearbox to neutral.
Starting with another battery
Using auxiliary cables, you can connect to another battery. This must be done with extreme caution. Any incorrect connection may cause injury or damage the batteries and electrical equipment on both vehicles.
There should be no sources of sparks or open flame near the battery. Avoid contact of electrolyte with eyes, skin, paintwork. The electrolyte contains acid which, in direct contact with it, causes burns and damage.
Wear protective goggles when working with the battery.
The battery used for starting must have a constant voltage of 12 volts. Its capacity, measured in Ah, should not differ significantly from the capacity of a discharged battery. These characteristics can be found on the battery cases.
Do not disconnect a discharged battery from the mains.
Turn off all unnecessary consumers of electricity.
Do not lean over the batteries during starting.
The pole terminals of the auxiliary cables must not touch each other. Apply the parking brake, put the transmission in neutral position.
Connect auxiliary cables in the sequence shown in the figure.
- 1. Connect the cable to the positive terminal of the additional battery.
- 2. Connect the other end of this cable to the positive terminal of the discharged battery.
- 3. Connect the second cable to the negative terminal of the additional battery.
- 4. Connect the opposite end of this cable to the vehicle ground or engine block.
Do not connect the cable to the negative terminal of a discharged battery! Lay auxiliary cables so that they do not come into contact with rotating mechanisms and parts of the engine compartment.
During starting, the engine of the vehicle supplying voltage may not run. Run at intervals of 15 seconds for 1 minute. After starting, the engines of both vehicles should idle for about 3 minutes with the cables connected. Disconnect the cables strictly in the reverse order of connection.
