Handbrake cable — removal and installation (Opel Omega A)

1. Block the front wheel, then jack up the rear of the car and secure it on axle stands. Remove the rear wheels and apply the handbrake.

2. On the front side of the handbrake cable, unscrew the adjustment nut on the handbrake lever rod and move it away from the compensator (photo).

3. On each side, disconnect the return spring from the lever on the shield, then disconnect the cable.

4. Move the rear part of the cable housing away from the guide on the diagonal arm on both sides.

5. Bend the intermediate brackets back and release the cables.

6. Move the front ends of the cable housings away from the guides (photo) and disconnect the cables. Remove the cable assembly from under the car.

7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, but note that the shorter, black-sheathed cable is installed on the right. Coat the plastic cable guides with some molybdenum paste. Finally, adjust the handbrake shoes and cable as described in Chapter 8, points 20-25.
