2. Turn the steering completely to the right and check the wear of the handbrake pads. Check the thickness of the gasket, including the base plate, as specified in the Specifications using a steel straightedge.
3. Turn the steering all the way to the left and check the left brake pads.
4. If any brake pad is worn below the minimum thickness, replace all front pads along with new anti-rattling springs.
5. Remove the brake shoe pin calipers where used.
6. Notice how the anti-chatter spring is placed, then knock out the pins using a fine punch (photo).
7. Remove the anti-chatter spring. At the same time, where applicable, disconnect the pad wear warning light sensor and disconnect the sensor cable from the wiring harness in the engine compartment (photo). Also release the cable from the brackets and the anti-rattling spring. Note that the sensor and cable should always be replaced when new brake pads are installed, as the sensor will be worn out.
8. Extend the brake pads slightly.
9. Remove the brake pads from the caliper (photo). If they are pinched, use pliers or grips. Also remove, where used, the intermediate plates.
10. Clean dust and dirt from the caliper and intermediate plates, being careful not to inhale it. Clean the rust off the brake disc rib.
11. Push the piston all the way into the caliper to place the new brake pads. Where applicable, the notch on the piston must be correctly oriented.
12. Insert new brake pads and intermediate plates into the caliper and check that they move freely.
13. Place the anti-rattling spring on the shoes, then insert the pins from the outside along with the springs below the pins.
14. Install the spring calipers on the inside edges of the brake shoe pins, where applicable.
15. Where applicable, install a new pad wear lamp warning sensor into the groove on the inner pad, then run a cable through the engine compartment and connect it to the wiring harness. Attach the cable to the brackets.
16. Replace the brake pads on the remaining front wheel using the procedure given in steps 5-15.
17. Depress the brake pedal several times to set the brake pads to their normal position.
18. Install the front wheels and lower the vehicle to the ground.
