Before setting the ignition timing, check the closed angle.
The engine temperature must be at least 30°C.
Connect the tachometer according to the instructions, see No. 4.39.
Check idle speed setting, correct if necessary, see section "Carburetor".
Connect a stroboscope to the spark plug cable of cylinder 1.
Caution: The vacuum hose on the vacuum distributor ignition timing controller remains attached.
Start the engine and let it idle.
Illuminate the ignition timing marks on the belt pulley with a strobe lamp.
The ignition timing is set correctly if the notch on the belt pulley is calmly opposite the pointer.
If the marks do not match when illuminated by flashes, adjust the ignition timing. To do this, depending on the model, slightly loosen the clamps or fixing nuts and turn the distributor a little. If you turn in direction A, ignition will occur a little earlier, if in direction B - later.
Attention: Strictly observe safety precautions when performing any work on the ignition system.
Fasten the brackets or nuts and check the ignition again.
Check idle.
Caution: Vehicles using superfuel, such as unleaded supergasoline, should have a slightly delayed ignition (up to max 5°). This means that the new ignition point must be to the left of the old one (work being done in the workshop).
