Checking and adjusting idle speed and CO content (Opel Kadett D)

Warm up the engine, the oil temperature should be at least 60°C.

Turn off electrical appliances (radio, light, etc.).

Air damper (carburetor upper flap) should be fully open, air filter left screwed in.

Attention! To connect the tachometer to terminal 1 of the ignition coil (Delco-Remy) an adapter cable is required. You can make an adapter cable yourself. You will need a 15-centimeter cable with a cross-sectional area of 1.0 mm², one round plug and one flat plug socket.

The adapter cable is connected to the lower terminal of the ignition coil (position 4).

Connect the tachometer and CO meter according to the instructions.

Remove the safety seal on the adjustment screw.

Start the engine.

Check the idle speed.

Check the idle speed.


Adjust the idle speed with the mixture screw (arrow). For the required value, see the section "Carburetor Specifications" below, see paragraph 4.49.
