Carburetor 1B1 — design description (Opel Kadett D)

            0

The downdraft carburetor is made of aluminum. The float and mixing chambers are in a single housing. The idle shut-off valve blocks the idle mixture from entering the mixing chamber after the ignition is turned off. If the valve is faulty, the engine will not start. The mixture enricher is located on the side during uniform movement. The curved washer, connected by a lever to the throttle shaft, drives the accelerator pump. After adjusting the amount of fuel injected, the curved washer is fixed with a locking screw and fits tightly to the pump cover. The carburetor cover contains jets and emulsion tubes, a float with a needle valve, a connecting tube for feeding fuel, an accelerator pump control lever, a starting air damper with a shaft, a lifting tube for enriching the mixture at full power and an outlet tube. In the emulsion tube. Below is the main jet, above is a combined air-fuel jet for basic idle speed and a combined air-fuel jet for additional mixture. The air adjustment jet with a mixing tube is pressed into the emulsion tube from above and is located above the main jet. By manually acting on the starter cable, it is possible to set the starting air damper, the starting roller and the bimetallic spring, the drive lever with the lever system, the throttle valve, through the curved washer, the idle lever, with the adjusting screw, in the cold start position. After turning on the ignition, in the first phase of the cold start, as a result of turning the engine with the starter, under the throttle valve, but at the outlet of the idle mixture, bypass holes, and in the mixing chamber under the starting damper, a low pressure area is formed. The vacuum causes an influx of fuel. To avoid over-enrichment, the axis of the starting flap is offset from the center of the flap in such a way that the low pressure acting in the mixing chamber allows the flap, overcoming the resistance of the bimetallic spring, to open slightly, strictly regulating the amount of air in the mixture.
