2. To remove the rear (flywheel side) oil seal, you must first remove the flywheel / drive disk (see Section 15)
3. Carefully drill or punch two holes in the hard end face of the gland. Screw a couple of self-tapping screws into the holes. Grasp the screw heads with pliers and carefully, so as not to damage the seating surfaces, remove the oil seal from the seat.
4. Clean the contact surfaces of the seat and shaft stud, carefully removing burrs and scuffs from them that could lead to failure of the new stuffing box.
5. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and, using a cylindrical mandrel, evenly press the oil seal into the seat with the lips inside and flush with the surface of the block (see resist. illustration).
16.5. The gland should be pressed into the seat flush with the surface of the block
Note: An interchangeable socket of the appropriate size, or a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter, is suitable as a mandrel - make sure that the mandrel rests only on the hard edge of the stuffing box.
6. Remove all traces of oil and reinstall the flywheel/drive plate (see Section 15).
