Note: Instead of replacing the brushes, their rubber working elements can be replaced. Performing this work requires a certain skill - it is recommended to contact a car service specialist.
Checking the condition of the brushes
1. Good visibility is an important component of traffic safety. The condition of the windshield wiper assemblies should be checked regularly in accordance with the vehicle's routine maintenance schedule (see section 1). Windscreen wiper blades accumulate a film of road film over time, reducing their performance, so the blades should be washed regularly in a mild cleaning solution. It is recommended to replace the wiper blades at least once a year.
2. Wiper blade assemblies should be inspected regularly and replaced if hardened or cracked on the rubber of the blades. If nothing out of the ordinary is found on inspection, dampen the windshield/rear window, turn on the wipers, let them run for a while, then turn them off. Uneven brush marks on the glass or streaks on clean glass indicate that the corresponding brush should be replaced.
3. If the brush does not clean the glass well enough, it is possible that particles of wax or other material have fallen on the glass or the wiper blade. In this case, wipe the outside of the glass with a mild cleaning solution. You can check the cleanliness of the glass by washing it with clean water. Water drops should not form on clean glass.
Note: The use of a liquid with wax-dissolving properties for glass cleaning can significantly improve the performance of windshield wipers. Then you need to wipe the brush with a soft cloth soaked in cleaning solution and rinse it with water. If the brush still does not clean the glass well enough, replace the brush (see below).
4. During the operation of the wiper mechanism, the mounting nuts may loosen, so they should be checked and, if necessary, tightened each time the brushes are checked.
5. Check up correctness of an arrangement of brushes on glass in an initial position of screen wipers. To do this, measure the distance from the edge of the windshield to the middle of the wiper blade (see resist. illustration). If necessary, adjust by rearranging the wiper arms (see chapter 12).
12.5. Checking the lowering end point of the windshield wiper arms
Replacing the windshield wiper blades
6. Move the lever (leash) wiper from the glass surface.
7. Turn the brush at 90°and, pressing the lock, remove it from the lever (see resist. illustration).
12.7. Removing the brush from the windshield lever
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Replacement of a brush of a screen wiper of back glass
9. Move the wiper arm away from the glass surface, turn the brush 90°and remove it (see resist. illustration).
12.9. Removing the brush from the rear wiper arm
10. Put a new brush on the wiper arm and snap it into the retainer clips. Check the fixation is secure.
