Replacing the cylinder head cover gasket (Opel Astra J)

If the engine oil leak from under the cylinder head cover or the engine oil leak into the spark plug wells cannot be eliminated by tightening the cover mounting bolts, replace the cylinder head cover gasket.

You will need: TORX E11 socket head, extension, ratchet, flat-blade screwdriver.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

6. Remove the gasket from the cover grooves.

7. Clean the cover grooves and install a new gasket in them.



8. Install the cylinder head cover in the reverse order of removal.

Tighten the cylinder head cover mounting bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 8–10 N·m.
