Replacing the ignition switch (lock) contact group (Opel Astra J)

You will need a TORX T20 key.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.



2. Remove the steering wheel (see Removal and installation the steering wheel).



3. Remove the top…



4. …and the lower part of the steering column cover (see Removal and installation the steering column cover).



5. Use a screwdriver to push out the lock of the connector of the wiring harness of the ignition switch (lock) contact group…





6. …press the lock…



7. …and disconnect the block from the contact group.



8. Unscrew the two bolts securing the contact group to the ignition switch…

For clarity, shown with the steering column removed.



This is how the bolts securing the contact group to the ignition switch are located.





9. …and remove the contact group.

Note: Pay attention to the marking of the contact group. Purchase a new contact group with similar marking.

10. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
