Removal and installation the steering wheel (Opel Astra J)

You will need: tORX T50 key, flat-blade screwdriver, side cutters.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Set the steering wheel to a position corresponding to the straight-ahead movement of the vehicle.

5. …and disconnect the audio control unit connector from the wiring harness connector.

6. Similarly, disconnect the wiring harness connector from the horn connector.

7. Cut the clamp securing the wiring harness.

8. Loosen the steering wheel to steering shaft mounting bolt while holding the steering wheel from turning.

Warning! Do not completely loosen the steering wheel mounting bolt, otherwise, when removing the steering wheel by hand, you may injure yourself if it suddenly detaches from the steering shaft, since the steering wheel is spring-loaded.




Note: You can prevent the steering wheel from turning using the ignition switch anti-theft device locking mechanism. To do this, remove the key from the ignition switch and turn the steering wheel until the shaft is locked by the anti-theft device. After loosening the steering wheel mounting bolt, turn off the anti-theft device by inserting the key into the ignition switch and set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position again.


Note: You can prevent the steering wheel from turning using the ignition switch anti-theft device…


9. Use sharp blows of your hands to knock the steering wheel off the splines of the steering shaft.

10. Finally, unscrew the mounting bolt…

11. …and remove the steering wheel.



12. Install the steering wheel in the reverse order of removal.

Note: When installing the steering wheel, align the marks on the steering wheel hub and steering shaft.
