Removal and installation the driver's airbag and its contact ring (Opel Astra J)

You will need: flat-head and Phillips-head screwdrivers.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

Attention!
  • Attempting to remove the airbag module without disconnecting its power supply may result in unexpected airbag deployment.
  • The following operations for removing the airbag can be started only after the activator capacitor has been completely discharged. To discharge the capacitor, it is necessary to wait at least 15 minutes after disconnecting the power supply.
  • Disassembling the airbag module is prohibited.
  • The airbag module must not be allowed to fall or come into contact with water, grease or oil.
  • The airbag module must not be exposed to temperatures above 95°C.

2. Using a suitable rod, press out the two spring clips securing the airbag module on the left and right through the holes in the steering wheel cover…

10. Secure the contact ring with masking tape or electrical tape.

19. Remove the four screws securing the airbag contact ring to the steering column switch connector…

21. …and remove the contact ring from the steering column switch connector.

22. Install the driver's airbag and its contact ring in the reverse order of removal.
