General information (Opel Astra G)

The front suspension is independent and consists of levers, MacPherson struts and a stabilizer. The levers are connected to the hub brackets (steering knuckles) through ball joints and with the subframe through the axle and rubber bushings. The ball joints are bolted to the suspension arm and clamped to the hub brackets. The caliper and brake disc with the hub are attached to the hub brackets. The hub bearing tension is not adjustable. The front shock absorbers are pneumatic.

The rear suspension is semi-independent, lever with a tubular beam. The elastic element of the suspension is torsion bars and conical springs. The rear hub assembly is made integral with the journal and bearing, and is not subject to disassembly.

The steering is rack and pinion with a breakaway steering column. The airbag module is built into the steering wheel. The steering column shafts are connected by cardan joints. The steering gear is mounted on the subframe and connected to the levers, which are rigidly connected to the steering knuckle through a tip with a ball pin. The steering rod ends are screwed into the steering racks. All models have a power steering with an electric pump, which is built into the steering gear, forming a non-separable unit.

Precautions: When performing any work near the steering column or the airbag module, disconnect the battery from the ground and wait at least 1 minute. Do not subject the airbag container to sudden mechanical loads, heating above 90°C, or exposure to solvents.
