Note. This procedure is very complicated and in many cases it is easier to remove the transmission together with the engine assembly (see chapter 2). Read this section carefully before removing the transmission. During assembly, you will have to replace various parts, you will need the appropriate tools.
Removing
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Working in the engine compartment, remove the clamp with gasket and disconnect the selector cable from the drive lever.
Disconnect the ventilation hose (located under the battery compartment).
Disconnect the wiring harness connector and transmission harness mounting bracket.
After unscrewing the screws, remove the sleeve, disconnect the speedometer flexible shaft from the upper side of the unit.
Remove the top three gearbox-to-engine bolts.
Further, the procedure is as indicated in parts "A" this chapter subject to the following points:
- A) instead of words "Manual Transmission" use "Automatic transmission".
- b) removing the drain plug located on the lower right side of the crankcase, drain the fluid into a container.
Clamp the transmission cooling system hoses, then disconnect them. noticing the location. Liquid leakage is possible, therefore it is necessary to block the ends of the hoses to prevent contamination and loss of liquid.
Turn away bolts and remove a cover of a konsuobrazny case of transmission.
If the same transformer and the same drive disk will be installed, make marks for fitting parts during assembly.
During operations carried out through the bottom of the crankcase, unscrew the three bolts of the torque converter and drive plate. Turn the crankshaft with a wrench, attaching it to the crankshaft pulley or sprocket bolt (depends on design), to access each bolt in turn through the hole it creates. It is necessary to wedge the gear of the drive disk with a screwdriver so that it does not turn during the removal of the bolts (bolts must be removed).
Place the gearbox on a mobile jack with wooden blocks under it.
Remove the left engine/transmission mounting support by unscrewing the two rubber gasket bolts on the vehicle body and the three bracket bolts.
Remove the remaining engine-to-transmission bolts. Check the reliability of fastening in the crankcase when disconnecting the torque converter motor, otherwise it may fall out.
Now you can lower and remove the gearbox from under the front of the car. With an assistant, this work is easier.
Installation
If the same torque converter is installed, the assembly operation begins with cutting a new thread in the torque converter under the bolts of its fastening to the drive disk using a M10x1.25 mm tap.
When installing a new gearbox, it is recommended to flush the radiator channels to cool the fluid. Compressed air would be ideal (however, precautions must be taken), or you can use a clean transmission fluid.
Position the transmission under the front of the vehicle and secure it to the wheel jack with wooden beams.
Raise the transmission so that the upper and lower engine mounting bolts can be installed, but do not tighten.
Install the left side engine/transmission mounting to the vehicle body. Tighten all bolts to the required torque.
Tighten the previously installed mounting bolts, then remove the wheel jack from under the gearbox.
When installing the old torque converters and drive plate, carefully turn the crankshaft to align the marks made before removal.
Install new torque converter to drive plate bolts. Rotate the crankshaft to access each bolt in turn and secure the disc to prevent it from turning.
Install the transaxle case cover.
Further, the order of work is as indicated in parts "A" this chapter.
Connect the fluid cooler hoses to the transmission with new gaskets.
Connect the speedometer flexible shaft to the gearbox.
Install the transmission harness mounting brackets and connect the harness connector.
Connect the ventilation hose.
Connect the selector cable to the actuating lever and adjust as above.
Fill the gearbox housing with special fluid through the level indicator tube.
Connect the negative battery terminal.
Check the fluid level in the unit and top up if necessary.
