Removal and installation steering gear boots (Opel Vectra C)

1. Remove the appropriate tie rod end (see Section 15), if necessary, remove the engine crankcase protection (see Chapter 2).

2. Tighten the locknut (see illustration 15.4) from the steering rod, thoroughly clean the surface of the rod from dirt.

3. Remove the inner and outer mounting clamps (see accompanying illustration) and remove the boot from the steering rod.

Note: The inner clamp will have to be cut off.

4. Before installing the new boot, wipe and lightly lubricate the steering rod.

5. Replace the seal in the mounting groove on the steering gear (see accompanying illustration). Place the boot on the steering rod - its edges should be located in the corresponding grooves of the steering gear and steering rod.





6. Secure the boot with new clamps, making sure it does not twist.

7. Screw the lock nut onto the steering rod and install the rod end (see Section 15).

8. At the earliest opportunity, take the car to a specialized auto service workshop to check and adjust the front wheel alignment.
