2. Tighten the locknut (see illustration 15.4) from the steering rod, carefully clean the surface of the rod from dirt.
3. Remove the inner and outer mounting straps (see resist. illustration) and remove the boot from the tie rod.

Note: The inner collar will have to be cut off.
4. Before installing a new boot, wipe and lightly lubricate the tie rod.
5. Replace the seal in the mounting groove on the steering gear (see resist. illustration). Put the boot on the steering rod - its edges should be located in the corresponding grooves of the steering mechanism and steering rod.

6. Secure the boot with new clamps - make sure that it does not twist.
7. Screw the locknut onto the tie rod and install the tie rod end (see Section 15).
8. At the first opportunity, drive the car to a specialized car service workshop to check and adjust the toe-in of the front wheels.
