2. Tighten the locknut (see illustration 14.4) from the steering rod, carefully clean the surface of the rod from dirt.
3. Remove the inner and outer mounting straps (see resist. illustration) and remove the boot from the tie rod.

4. Before installing a new boot, wipe and lightly lubricate the tie rod.
5. Put the boot on the steering rod - its edges should be located in the corresponding grooves of the steering mechanism and steering rod (see resist. illustration).

6. Secure the boot with new clamps - make sure that it does not twist.
7. Screw the locknut onto the tie rod and install the tie rod end (see Section 14).
8. At the first opportunity, drive the car to a specialized car service workshop to check and adjust the toe-in of the front wheels.
