Caution: Before performing any work near the air bag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental deployment (see Section 11).

1. Remove the airbag module (see Section 12).

2. Place the front wheels in a straight-ahead position and lock the steering column by removing the key from the ignition switch.

3. Disconnect the horn wiring connectors (see accompanying illustration), and if equipped with the appropriate equipment, the infotainment system. Try to remember the wiring harness routes for subsequent installation. Then, using a wrench, unscrew the steering wheel mounting bolt to the column.

Attention: The use of impacts when removing the steering wheel is not permitted!

5. Before installing the steering wheel, run and clean the threaded connection. Make sure that the car wheels are in a straight position - otherwise, when installing the steering wheel, the contact block of the steering column switches may be damaged.

8. Lubricate the new steering wheel mounting bolt with locking compound (for example, Lochte 243), screw it in and tighten it to the required torque (see Specifications).

9. Connect the electrical wiring connectors - ensure that the harnesses are routed correctly.

10. Install the driver's front airbag module (see Section 12).

11. On a level road, check the correct neutral position of the steering wheel, if necessary, reset it. Check the operation of the horn and remote control (with appropriate equipment) infotainment system.

Note: On models equipped with the ESP system, it is necessary to synchronize the steering wheel angle sensor (see Chapter "Controls and operating techniques").
