Replacing the steering gear dust boots (Opel Insignia A)

Removal

1. Raise and secure the vehicle.

2. Remove the outer tie rod end.

3. If equipped, remove the steering gear heat shield.

4. Loosen the nut (5) of the inner steering rod.



5. Remove the outer clamp (4) of the steering gear boot.

6. Cut off the inner clamp (2) of the steering gear boot.

Note: The inner clamp (2) of the steering gear boot is disposable.

7. Remove the boot (3) from the steering gear (1).

8. Check the inner steering rod for signs of corrosion or contamination. If nothing of the sort is found, continue repairs. If contamination or signs of corrosion are found, the steering gear must be replaced with a new one.

Installation

1. Install the boot (3) on the inner steering rod.



2. Install a new inner clamp (2) onto the steering gear boot.



3. Install the boot with the clamp on the steering gear (1). Make sure that the boot is seated in the groove of the steering gear.

4. Using the MKM-804 tool, crimp the inner clamp of the steering gear boot.

5. Install the outer clamp (1) of the steering gear boot.



6. Install the nut (2) of the inner steering rod.

7. If equipped, install the steering gear heat shield.

8. Install the outer tie rod end.

9. Lower the vehicle.
