Removing
1. Raise and secure the vehicle.
2. Remove the outer tie rod end.
3. If equipped, remove steering gear heat shield.
4. Loosen the nut (5) inner tie rod.
5. Remove the outer collar (4) steering gear boot.
6. Cut off the inner collar (2) steering gear boot.
Note. Inner collar (2) steering gear boot disposable.
7. Remove boot (3) from steering gear (1).
8. Check the inner tie rod for signs of corrosion or contamination. If nothing of the kind is found, proceed with the repair. If dirt or corrosion is found, the steering gear must be replaced with a new one.
Installation
1. Install boot (3) to the inner tie rod.
2. Install new inner collar (2) on the steering gear boot.
3. Install the boot with a clamp on the steering gear (1). Make sure that the dust boot is seated in the steering gear groove.
4. Using the tool MKM-804, compress the inner collar of the steering gear boot.
5. Install outer collar (1) steering gear boot.
6. Install the nut (2) inner tie rod.
7. If equipped, install steering gear heat shield.
8. Install the outer tie rod end.
9. Lower the car.
