The ignition and injection system is supported by an extensive emergency mode program if a sensor fails, a wire connection is broken, or contact with ground occurs. At the same time, the electronic memory device registers the malfunction.
The emergency mode of operation is distinguished by the control unit as follows: the normal control mode is maintained, instead of the missing information in the calculations of ignition and fuel dosage, an auxiliary value is used. Example: if the temperature sensor fails, the control unit makes calculations with an auxiliary value of the coolant temperature of 80°C.
