Constant control
The expansion tank with the reserve of power steering fluid is located in the engine compartment on the right. For your own safety, you should regularly, approximately every other time you check the engine oil level, check the fluid level in this tank. It is filled with the same fluid as the automatic transmission.
- Perform the test with the engine off.
- Unscrew the tank cap. The dipstick for measuring the liquid level, connected to the cap, has two markings.
- When the engine is warm, the oil level should reach a maximum of the upper mark.
- When the engine is cold, the oil level should not fall below the lower mark.
- Add the missing liquid.
- In general, fluid loss indicates a leak in the hydraulic system. So in this case, don't just add ATF, but identify the leak.
- Make sure that no dirt gets into the expansion tank when it is open. This may cause malfunctions.
