Vehicle identification number
Since 1982, the 17-digit vehicle identification number has been used worldwide. Such a number begins with the code Opel WOL, followed by four 0's, then a two-digit number for that type of Opel. The next letter indicates the year of issue (1995 = S, 1996 = T, 1997 = U etc.). The next letter indicates the manufacturer. The last six digits are the actual manufacturing number in each year of manufacture.
