The gear shift mechanism consists of a gear lever, a stem and a gear selector mechanism.
Removing
Shift Lever and Stem
1. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the engine mudguard.
2. Using paint or a marker, mark the alignment marks on the shift shaft and clip on the front of the linkage. Loosen clamp bolt (indicated by an arrow), by unscrewing it two turns.
3. Move the gearshift lever to the 4th gear position, release the gearshift rod from the clamp and remove it from the rubber protective boot.
4. Remove the center console.
5. Unscrew the screws and remove the gear lever trim along with the switches and disconnect the electrical connectors from them.
6. Unscrew the 4 bolts securing the gear lever to the floor and remove the gear lever with the rod from the car.
Gear selector
7. Separate the shift rod from the gear selector clamp. The clamping bolt is located at the rear of the gearbox in front of the bulkhead of the engine compartment.
8. Push the latch (indicated by the arrow in the photo on the left) and remove the pivot pin connecting the link to the selector lever on top of the gearbox (photo on the right).
9. Remove the circlip and lift the gear selector up.
Installation
Gear lever and stem
1. Lubricate all shift lever pivots, reinstall shift lever and secure with bolts.
2. Connect the electrical connectors to the lever trim switches and reinstall the lever trim.
3. Install the rubber protective boot on the shift rod under the vehicle.
4. Attach the shift rod with the linkage clamp. Align the marks made before removal and tighten the clamp bolt.
5. Check the operation of the gearshift mechanism and adjust if necessary.
Gear selector
6. Lubricate the gear selector joints
7. Install gear selector and secure with circlip.
8. Align the link with the gear selector lever and secure with a new pivot pin.
9. Connect the shift rod to the linkage clamp. Align the marks made before removal and tighten the clamp bolt.
10. Check the operation of the gearshift mechanism and adjust if necessary.
