Gear selection mechanism


The gear shift mechanism consists of a gear shift lever, a rod and a gear selector mechanism.

Removal



Gear shift lever and rod

1. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the engine splash shield.

2. Using paint or a marker, make alignment marks on the shift rod and the clamp on the front of the linkage. Loosen the clamp bolt (indicated by the arrow), unscrewing it two turns.

3. Move the gear shift lever to the 4th gear position, release the gear shift rod from the clamp and remove it from the rubber protective boot.

4. Remove the center console.

5. Remove the screws and remove the gear shift lever trim along with the switches and disconnect the electrical connectors from them.



6. Remove the 4 bolts securing the gear shift lever to the floor and remove the gear shift lever and shaft from the vehicle.

7. Separate the shift rod from the gear selector clamp. The clamp bolt is located at the rear of the transmission in front of the engine compartment bulkhead.

8. Press the lock (indicated by the arrow in the photo on the left) and remove the pivot pin connecting the rod to the selector lever on the top of the gearbox (photo on the right).

9. Remove the retaining ring and lift the gear selector mechanism upwards.



Installation



Gear shift lever and rod

1. Lubricate all gear shift lever joints, install the lever in place and secure with bolts.

2. Connect the electrical connectors to the lever trim switches and reinstall the lever trim.

3. Place a rubber protective boot on the gear shift rod under the vehicle.

4. Attach the shift rod to the rod clamp. Align the marks made before removal and tighten the clamp bolt.

5. Check the operation of the gear shift mechanism and adjust if necessary.

6. Lubricate the gear selector mechanism pivot joints

7. Install the gear selector mechanism and secure with the retaining ring.

8. Align the rod with the gear selector lever and secure with a new pivot pin.

9. Connect the shift rod to the rod clamp. Align the marks made before removal and tighten the clamp bolt.

10. Check the operation of the gear shift mechanism and adjust if necessary.
