Generator — removal and installation (Opel Vectra B)

Removal



1. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Remove the mudguard. Remove the ground cable from the battery.

SOCH 1.6L engine and 1.8L and 2.0L engines

2. Remove the air cleaner housing and air intake duct.

3. Loosen the tension on the auxiliary drive belt and remove it from the alternator pulley.

4. Remove the bolt and torque compensator rod from the right side of the cylinder head.

5. Unscrew the bolts and remove the generator mounting bracket to the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.

6. Remove the rubber boot, unscrew the nuts and disconnect the electrical wires from the generator.

7. Unscrew the bolts securing the lower generator brackets to the cylinder block and remove the generator from the engine compartment.

8. Unscrew the bolts securing the lower generator bracket to the generator and remove the bracket from the generator.

DOCH 1.6L Petrol Engines

9. Loosen the tension on the auxiliary drive belt and remove it from the alternator pulley.

10. Remove the bolts and separate the air intake duct from the intake manifold.

11. Remove the rubber boot, unscrew the nuts and disconnect the electrical wires from the generator.

12. Unscrew the bolts securing the lower generator bracket to the cylinder block.

13. Remove the torque compensator rod mounting bolt from the right side of the cylinder head.

14. Unscrew the upper generator mounting bolt and remove the top of the generator from the engine compartment.

15. Unscrew the bolts securing the brackets to the generator and remove them from the generator.



Diesel engine 1.7 l

16. Loosen the tension on the auxiliary drive belt and remove it from the alternator pulley.

17. Remove the brake vacuum pump, which is mounted on the rear of the generator.

Warning! If the alternator is not being replaced, the pump can be left on the alternator. In this case, the vacuum hose and oil supply lines must be disconnected from the pump.


18. Disconnect the electrical connector located on the wires going to the generator.

19. Unscrew the generator mounting bolts and remove the generator from under the vehicle.

Diesel engine 2.0 l

20. Loosen the tension on the auxiliary drive belt and remove it from the alternator pulley.

21. Remove the air cleaner housing together with the air intake and air flow meter.

22. Remove the bolt securing the wiring harness bracket to the rear of the cylinder block.

23. Unscrew the nuts and remove the generator heat shield.

24. Unscrew the nuts (indicated by arrows) and disconnect the wires from the generator.

25. Remove the turbocharger flap solenoid valve bracket mounting bolt located in the right corner of the engine compartment. Move the valve away from the generator without disconnecting any wires or hoses from it.

26. Unscrew the upper generator mounting bolt.

27. Unscrew the lower generator mounting bolt.

28. Remove it from the top of the generator and out of the engine compartment.

29. To remove the generator, drain the coolant from the cooling system.

30. Disconnect the coolant hose from the rear of the cylinder head.

31. Remove the coolant outlet housing from the rear of the cylinder head.

32. Remove the generator.

Installation



Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
