Technical data of fuel injection systems (Opel Vectra A)

Petrol engines of Opel Vectra/Calibra cars, depending on the model, can have either a carburetor or an electronic fuel injection system. Engines with a volume of 1.6 l and 1.8 l/90 hp have a central injection system Multec, and engines with a volume of 2.0 l have a distributed injection system Motronic. The injection system and the ignition system are controlled by one computer. This chapter discusses only the part of the system that provides fuel injection.

The computer detects faults in the injection and ignition system, such as, for example, faulty sensors or unreliable contacts. These faults are recorded in the computer's memory. At the same time, a control lamp lights up on the instrument panel, indicating the occurrence of a fault. If no new faults are detected, the lamp goes out, but the fault code is stored in the memory. After the end of the trip, this code can be recalled from the memory using the diagnostic connector and a special device.

Attention! If the battery is disconnected from the vehicle's electrical system for more than 10 seconds, the fault codes in the computer's memory are erased. If the fault is not confirmed after 20 subsequent engine starts, the record of it is erased from the computer's memory.

All injection systems have stable operating characteristics and require almost no maintenance.
