The glow plugs are located under the intake port.
If you have difficulty starting the engine, check the engine compression first. If the compression value is low, then the engine cannot be started at low temperatures.
The DDE control unit is equipped with a fault memory for the electrical parts of the diesel injection system. In the workshops of OPEL, with the help of a special device, fault codes can be read.
Checking glow plugs
For a thorough check (in the workshop) an ammeter must be used.
1. Remove the engine cover and air injection pipe above the glow plugs.
2. Unscrew the connecting cables from the glow plugs (arrow).
3. Connect the voltage tester to the positive (+) battery terminal and check each glow plug.
4. If the LED lights up, then the glow plug is good.
5. If the LED does not light up, the glow plug is faulty, replace it.
Removing
1. Remove the intake manifold.
2. Disconnect cables (1 and 2), unscrew and visually inspect the glow plugs. Burnt glow plug tips are usually the result of bad injectors. Such malfunctions cannot be caused by damage in or on the glow plugs.
3. If a burnt glow plug is found (arrow), just replacing it is not enough. It is also necessary to check the injectors for injection pressure and tightness (in the workshop).
Installation
1. Screw in the glow plugs, tightening torque: 25 N.m.
Warning! The tightening torque must not be greater, as the glow plug may be damaged.
2. Connect the glow plug cable, tighten the nut to 5 N.m.
3. Screw the intake manifold to the cylinder head with a force of 25 Nm, replace all seals.
4. Screw the oil filter housing support and the exhaust gas recirculation pipe onto the intake manifold with a force of 25 N.m.
5. Reinstall the engine cover and air intake piping.
