The valve timing is adjusted correctly when the piston of the 1st cylinder is slightly before reaching TDC, and the valves of the 4th cylinder are overlapped (i.e. one opens, the other closes). In this case, the following should be observed.
The mark on the camshaft gear should be opposite the mark on the crankshaft gear.
The mark on the timing cover should be opposite the pulley mark.
The distributor rotor must be positioned opposite the distributor housing mark.
