Checking the cylinder block surface for flatness (Opel Kadett D)

Check the mating surface of the cylinder block with a ruler and feeler gauge in length and width for deformation. The deflection along the entire length of the cylinder block of a gasoline engine should be no more than 0.05 mm, and in the width of 150 mm - no more than 0.015 mm. For the cylinder block of a diesel engine, the deflection should be no more than 0.1 mm.



Check the mating surface of the cylinder block diagonally for deformation.



After grinding, pay attention to the protrusion of the pistons from the cylinders. The piston can protrude max. 0.22 mm for the 1.2-/1.3-l ONS engine, 0.40 mm for the 1.6-/1.8-l ONS engine, 0.29 mm for the 1.0-/1.2-l OHV engine above the upper edge of the cylinder block. In a diesel engine, the maximum is 0.78 mm.
