Removal and installation the chain tensioner (OHV engine) (Opel Kadett D)

Hydraulic chain tensioner

Removal

Remove the timing cover, see item 1.12.



Remove both chain tensioner screws.

Caution: When removing the chain tensioner, make sure that the sliding pressure segment does not jump out of the guide sleeve.

Remove the chain tensioner.

Installation

Thoroughly clean individual parts with gasoline and check them for suitability for use.

Note: Broken parts cannot be replaced separately. If necessary, the target tensioner should be replaced as a set.

Install the chain tensioner.

Install the timing case cover.

Mechanical tensioner

Removal

Remove the timing cover, see item 1.12.

Remove the chain tensioner screws.



Remove the chain tensioner.

Clean the mating surface.

Installation

Before installing the chain tensioner, make sure that the oil injection hole is clear (arrow).



Tighten the chain tensioner by hand with the bottom screw (arrow).



Insert a feeler gauge -arrow- between the thrust splines and the spring.





Compress the tensioner in the direction of the arrow and tighten the top screw.

Remove the feeler gauge and tighten the screws.

For better adhesion, lubricate the new gasket with oil and install it.

Install the timing gear cover.
