Note: On cars from year 04 with ESP - after each battery disconnection the steering wheel angle sensor loses its basic setting. It needs to be recalibrated.
Disconnect the battery.
Disconnect the ground wire.
Raise the car.
Remove the intake manifold support.
Remove 2 mounting bolts.
Install the starter wiring harness.
Remove 2 nuts 1.
Set the wiring harness aside.
Remove the starter.
Remove 2 mounting bolts.
Install the starter.
Tighten the screws (25 Nm).
Install the starter wiring harness.
Tighten the nuts.
Install the intake manifold support.
Tighten the screw at the top (M8, 20 Nm).

Tighten the screw from below (M10, 35 Nm).
Lower the car.
Connect the battery.
Calibrate the steering wheel angle sensor.
Turn on the ignition.
Note: Turn the steering wheel once from the right extreme position to the left extreme position.
Program volatile memory.
Close the hood.
