General information
The generator is the vehicle's power source. When the engine is running, it provides electricity to all units and charges the battery. A powerful three-phase synchronous generator is the power plant of your car. Already in idle mode, it provides power to all consumers. In modern cars, the generator is capable of generating power up to 2 kW. The generator is driven by a V-belt.
A three-phase generator produces three-phase alternating current. Since the battery must be charged with direct current, powerful diodes convert the alternating current into direct current.
The rectifiers also prevent the battery from draining when parked. The generator is virtually maintenance free. You can independently replace the generator brushes after a run of 100,000 km. In the event of a serious malfunction, return the generator for repair.
