Removal and installation the steering rod end (Opel Corsa B)

The steering rod ends have both right and left threads.


Removal



1. Mark the position of the front wheels in relation to their hubs so that the balanced wheel can then be installed in its original position. Remove the wheel mounting bolts with the vehicle on the ground. Jack up the front of the vehicle, place it on stands and remove the front wheels.

2. Loosen the nut securing the steering rod end to the steering knuckle. Remove the end using a regular puller or the OPEL KM-507 tool.

3. Measure the length (1) of the tie rod end and record the obtained value.

On models without power steering, the length (1) should be 174±6 mm, and on models with power steering - 163±6 mm.




4. Loosen the lock nut and unscrew the tip.

Installation



1. Screw the tip until the recorded value is obtained.

2. Install the tie rod end onto the steering knuckle and tighten the new self-locking nut (1) to 35 Nm.

3. Check and adjust front wheel alignment if necessary.

4. Tighten the tip lock nut with force 50 Nm.

5. Install the front wheels so that the marks made during removal match. Lower the car and tighten the wheel mounting bolts with force 110 Nm.
