Seat and headrest positions
The driver's seat must be in a position that provides the driver with maximum comfort when operating the pedals, gear lever/AT selector, steering wheel and instrument panel switches. In addition, adequate visibility through the windshield and side windows and the safety of fixing the driver's body with a seat belt must be ensured.
The design of car seats guarantees maximum comfort for the person sitting in them, while at the same time providing conditions for the most effective performance of their functions by seat belts and airbags. The soft padding of the cushions and backrests provides additional protection for the driver and passengers in emergency situations.
Attention: It is not allowed to use any additional pillows and other items placed on the cushion or back of the seat!
The choice of seat position also has an impact on the safety of the person sitting in it. For example, moving the front seat too far forward increases the risk of injury to the occupant when the airbag deploys, as well as the risk of being thrown through the windshield in a frontal collision. Moving the driver's seat back affects the ease of use of the controls while driving.
Increasing the inclination of the seat back will worsen the fixation of the body by the seat belt - the more the back is tilted back, the higher the likelihood of the body sitting under the lap section of the belt in a severe frontal impact, and the more severe the injuries can be. It is recommended to set the backrest angle of 25-30°from the vertical position. Lock the front seat as far as possible (convenient for driving) away from the steering wheel/dashboard position, bring the backrest to a vertical position.
Head restraints are important elements of the security system. They prevent injury to the cervical spine and head in a rear impact. Head restraint adjustment should be checked before every ride (see below)
Seats must be adjusted before driving. After completing the adjustment, you should make sure that the backrest and the entire seat assembly are securely fixed.
Headrests
Attention: The head restraints are an additional means of ensuring safety in case of an accident, never take them off when making a trip! They are designed to work with seat belts - don't forget to fasten your seat belts!
Adjustment
Attention: Adjustment of the head restraints must be carried out without fail! Only correctly installed head restraints provide adequate protection against possible damage to the cervical vertebrae in a rear impact!
The head restraint must be adjusted in height so that its central part is at the same level as the eyes/top of the ears of the seated person (see illustration 12.1) - if this condition cannot be achieved, the head restraint should be set to the highest (for tall people) or to the lowest (for shorter people) position.
To adjust the headrests of the front and rear side seats, press the button (see illustration 12.2) on the side of the head restraint and manually move it up or down as required.
On some versions, the center seat of the rear bench seat is also equipped with a head restraint. To adjust the rear bench seat center headrest, simply pull it up or hold down the headrest locks and lower it down (see illustration 12.3).
Withdrawal
To remove it, hold the headrest latches in the pressed position, pull the latter up and release it from the guides (see illustration 12.4). Note: The rear bench seat head restraint latches are located on the rear side.
The rear bench seat center headrest is integrated into the seat assembly and cannot be removed. When not in use, the head restraint must be moved to its lowest position.
Installation
For installation, it is necessary to fill the head restraint rods into the receptacles of the seat back and, pressing them with a little effort, lower the head restraint down.
Active front seat head restraints
Attention: Proper adjustment significantly increases the effectiveness of the head restraints - be sure to adjust the active head restraints as described above! Never tie or hang anything on the head restraint rods!
Active head restraints (with appropriate equipment) reduce the likelihood and severity of neck injury in a rear-end collision. The inscription informs about the installation of active head restraints on the front seats «ACTIVE» (see illustration 12.5) on seat guides. At the moment of impact, the active head restraint moves forward under the influence of the inertia force of the passenger's body on the seat back and helps to reduce the dynamic tilt of the head back, reducing the load on the cervical vertebrae. The headrest then returns to its original position.
Active head restraints are particularly effective in low and medium speed collisions where (as the statistics show) account for most of the cases of injury to the neck of the driver and passenger.
Front seats
Attention: Seat adjustment must be carried out only when the vehicle is stationary!
Adjustment
To move the front seat in the longitudinal direction, pull up the release lever located under the front edge of the cushion, then slide the seat assembly to the desired position and release the bracket (see illustration 12.6). To check that the seat is securely fixed in the new position, try moving it. Adjustment of the angle of inclination of the seatback is carried out using the rotary handle located on the outer side surface of the backrest (see illustration 12.7).
Note: When making the adjustment, the weight of the body must be removed from the seatback.
If equipped, the position of the front seat cushion can be adjusted. Cushion height adjustable by rocking the lever (see illustration 12.8), located on the outer side of the pillow (up to increase, down to decrease height). To adjust the angle of the pillow, pull up the lever (see illustration 12.9), located under the seat on the inside, and by transferring the weight of the body, give the pillow the required angle of inclination.
On some models, the design of the back of the driver's seat also allows you to adjust the position of its lumbar. Adjustment is carried out using a rotary knob located on the side surface of the seat back, on the inside of the latter (see illustration 12.10).
On models of the corresponding configuration, the driver's seat can be equipped with a folding inner armrest (see illustration 12.11). To lower the armrest, you need to press it and, overcoming resistance, lower it to a horizontal position. When raised, the armrest can be set in several fixed positions.
Transformation
On models of the corresponding configuration, the front seat backrests can be folded to the pillows, for which it is necessary to pull up the lever (see illustration 12.12), located on the outer side of the seat back and fold the seat forward until the lock clicks, then slide the seat forward until it stops.
Unfolding is carried out in the reverse order, without fail it is necessary to check the reliability of fixing the backrest in the upper position.
Rear bench seat
On the vehicles covered in this manual, a two-section rear seat can be installed (with asymmetric division), or a three-section design.
Adjustment
In some versions, it is possible to adjust the assembly position of the rear bench seat in the longitudinal direction. The principle of adjustment is the same as for the front seats, the lock release bracket is placed under the center of the rear seat (see illustration 12.13).
Transformation
Armrest
The rear seat can be equipped with a folding armrest (see illustration 12.14), designed for use with fewer than three passengers in the rear seat. To move the armrest to its working position, pull it from the top edge/loop and lower it horizontally. If necessary, tilt forward the cover of the hatch located in the wall of the pocket under the armrest in the back of the rear seat - skis or other long objects can be inserted into the resulting window. With the appropriate configuration, the possibility of transporting long loads is also provided by folding the backrest of the central section of the rear seat (see below).
Folding the rear seatbacks
Attention: When folding and unfolding the rear seat, make sure that the seat belts are inserted into special brackets (see illustration 10.4) to prevent the belts from being pinched by the back of the seat!
If you need to expand the volume of luggage for the transport of bulky goods, the rear seat backrest can be folded. The separate design of the rear bench seat allows you to fold any section independently of the others.
Before folding the backrests, the head restraints of the side seats must be removed, and the middle head restraint must be lowered down as far as it will go (see above), move the front seats slightly forward, if the rear seat armrest was previously used, it must be folded down. If equipped, disconnect the fasteners of the decorative luggage compartment shelf/horizontal blind/barrier net (see Section 17) from the back of the rear seat. The release buttons for the backrests are located on the outer sides of their upper edges (see illustrations 12.15 and 12.16). To fold the backrests, press the release buttons and fold the backrests against the seat cushions, then move the front seats to the most comfortable position.
The backrests are unfolded in the reverse order. The backrest must be raised to the characteristic click of the latch - check the reliability of fixing the backrests in a vertical position. Make sure that the rear seat belts are in their original positions when the backrests are raised.
Note: The 3-hunker rear seat center seat belt will only pull out of the retractable retractor when the bench seat backrest is locked in the upright position.
Folding the rear seat
On Universal models, in order to maximize the luggage compartment of the car when transporting bulky or multi-seat cargo, it is additionally possible to fold the rear bench seat.
To fold the seat, remove the armrest, lower the center head restraint to its lowest position, disconnect the fasteners of the decorative luggage compartment shelf / horizontal blind / barrier net (see Section 17) from the back of the rear seat by pulling on the special loops (see illustration 12.17), move the rear seat cushion to the vertical position.
Note: When fitted with a longitudinally adjustable rear seat, the cushions are raised by simply pulling up on their rear edge/hinge.
Remove the side headrests and fold them into the recesses of the raised seat cushions (see illustration 12.18). To fold the backs - press the release buttons (see illustration 12.19) and fold the backrests forward to the lowest position.
Unfolding the seats is done in reverse order. The backrest must be raised to the characteristic click of the latch - check the reliability of fixing the backrests in a vertical position. Make sure the rear seat belts are in their original positions.
Note: The 3-hunker rear seat center seat belt will only pull out of the retractable retractor when the bench seat backrest is locked in the upright position.
