Astra models
front section
1. Remove the center console (see chapter 11).
2. Turn out an adjusting nut of a drive of a parking brake.
3. Using pliers, grasp the parking brake cable at the lower end of the threaded rod and release it from the guide.
4. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands.
5. Remove the inlet pipe and additional muffler of the exhaust system (see chapter 4).
6. Loosen the fixing nuts (see resist. illustration) and remove the heat shield from the bottom of the vehicle, then remove the holders of the exhaust system.
7. Rotate tip 90° (see illustration 14.6) front parking brake cable and disconnect from the equalizer. Disconnect the cable from the parking brake lever carrier plate and pull the cable out of the grommet and out of the hole in the bottom of the vehicle.
8. Installation is made in an order, the return to an order of removal. When fixing the cable in the equalizer (see resist. illustration) insert it into the slot and turn it 90°. After landing the cable, pull the stop collar over the shaft of the handpiece to prevent spontaneous disconnection of the cable.
9. At the end of the work, adjust the parking brake (see Section 12).
Main section
Note: The main section consists of two cables and an equalizer.
10. Loosen the parking brake actuator (see Section 12).
11. Support the front wheels with wheel chocks, jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Fully release the parking brake. Disconnect the parking brake cables from the actuating levers and rear wheel calipers (see Section 6) (see illustration 6.3).
12. Disconnect the front section of the drive cable from the equalizer (see above).
13. Release the main section cables from the support brackets on the rear beam and fuel tank (see resist. illustration) and remove them from under the car.
14. Installation is made in an order, the return to an order of removal. Don't forget to install a new lock plate on the caliper mount.
15. At the end of the work, adjust the parking brake (see Section 12).
Models Zafira
Note: Removal/installation of the drive cables is carried out in much the same way as on Astra models, but the parking brake lever must be removed. Below are only the features associated with this operation.
16. Fully loosen the adjusting nut and loosen the drive cable (see Section 12).
17. Turn the tip of the front section of the parking brake cable drive 90°and disconnect it from the equalizer.
18. Remove the center console (see chapter 11).
19. Disconnect the wiring of the sensor-switch of the parking brake cocking control lamp and the yaw sensor. Remove the 2 nuts and remove the yaw sensor from the plate.
20. Remove 2 nuts (see resist. illustration) and remove the plate, then unscrew the 2 fixing bolts and release the wiring harnesses. Loosen the 4 fixing nuts and remove the parking brake lever with bracket.
21. Release the cable bushing from the parking brake lever plate and pull the cable out of the bushing.
22. Installation is made in an order, the return to an order of removal. Replace the parking brake lever mounting nuts and tighten to specification.
