Remember that gasoline is a highly flammable liquid! Observe all applicable fire safety precautions when working on power system components. Do not smoke! Do not approach the place of work with an open flame or carrying an unprotected lampshade! Do not service the system in rooms equipped with natural gas-fired heaters equipped with a pilot flame (such as water heaters and clothes dryers). Do not forget that gasoline is classified as a carcinogen, i.e., substances that contribute to the development of cancer!
Try to prevent fuel from getting into open areas of the body - use rubber protective gloves, in case of accidental unforeseen contact with fuel, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap. Clean up spilled fuel immediately and do not store fuel-soaked rags near open flames. Remember that the fuel injection system of models equipped with fuel injection is constantly under pressure. Relieve any residual pressure in the system before attempting to disconnect fuel lines. Wear safety goggles when servicing power system components. Keep a class B fire extinguisher handy at all times!
As mentioned above (see Supply system), the power system includes an electric submersible fuel pump placed inside the tank, a fuel filter, injection injectors, a pressure regulator and fuel lines connecting the listed components. The fuel inside the power system path with the engine running and the ignition on is under pressure. Residual overpressure continues to be held in the system for some time after the ignition is turned off and must be released before disconnecting components / disconnecting the fittings.
The supply system must be depressurized before servicing any of its components to minimize the risk of fuel ignition and personal injury.
SOHC engines
1. Make sure that the ignition is off, remove the cover from the mounting block installed in the engine compartment - the block is located behind the upper support of the left suspension strut. Remove the purple colored fuel pump relay from its socket (1).
2. Start the engine, wait for it to stop spontaneously, then turn off the ignition.
DOHC engines
1. On these engines, in addition to those described (see above SOHC engines) there is an alternative way to relieve pressure in the power system (see below).
2. Locate the valve block (1), installed on the fuel line of the inlet pipeline. On 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines, the valve is located at the right end of the line, on 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines - in its upper part.
3. Unscrew the valve cap and place a suitable drain container under the valve assembly. Cover the valve from above with a rag and relieve pressure by pressing the valve core with a suitable screwdriver - get ready for fuel ejection, traces of which you can immediately collect with a rag. Keep the core pressed until the fuel ejection stops completely.
4. Finally, reinstall the valve assembly cover.
All engines
1. To ensure that the system is completely discharged, turn the engine a few more times with the starter. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
