If the control light is on continuously, the ABS is not ready for use. Opel workshop with appropriate equipment should find the cause of this phenomenon. Not every workshop can do this, because. this requires additional tools and requires ongoing employee training, so find that out first. As an amateur, you can, in any case, check the plug connections of the control unit or speed sensors. Below are a few more tips based on our experience with ABS failures:
Left: speed sensors (arrow) on the left and right are screwed with a hexagon socket bolt to the steering knuckles and read the toothed disk on both drive shafts. The resulting voltage is the measuring value for the speed.
On right: rear speed sensor (arrow) The ABS system is integrated into the so-called wheel bearing module.
The figure shows the location of the ABS components. as well as sets of wires and laying of brake pipes:
1 - hydraulic module and control unit;
2 - speed sensor in front on the right;
3 - control lamp ABS;
4 - speed sensor rear right;
5 - speed sensor rear left;
6 - speed sensor front left.
At high speed (from about 160 km/h) The ABS warning light may come on. The reason is the different speed of rotation of the wheels of the rear and front axles, caused by an unfavorable combination of tires With standard tires, this effect does not occur.
If, for example, on ice, the front wheels turn for more than 20 seconds, then the control lamp lights up due to the difference in the wheel speed.
If the onboard voltage drops below 10 V, the control lamp also lights up. It can also light up if one of the wheels rotates for more than 20 seconds. Then switch off the ignition again and restart the engine.
When the ABS is working, it is felt by the pulsating brake pedal. If it pulsates even when braking lightly in favorable traffic conditions (ABS warning light does not come on), this indicates a malfunction.
Tip: even if the ABS warning light is on permanently, i.e. ABS is either disabled or defective, the car can drive without restrictions. In this case, the brakes function in the same way as in a car without ABS.
